Whilst most people don't go on holiday to shop, it is handy to know where you can. Whether it is for supplies for your self catering accommodation or for the odd souvenir or gift for those at home. This page is an expanded extract from my main Luz Shopping Page. Here you will find all of the Food Shops I have found in Praia da Luz and just the major food stores in the nearby town of Lagos ( and a map of their approximate whereabouts ).
Also see the page that covers some of the larger shopping complexes along the Algarve.
Shopping Tip : When food shopping, if you are self-catering and particularly if you are on a budget avoid the 'imported' ( U.K.) brands, even if 'you always have' xxxxx's brand of tea / coffee, tomato sauce etc. 'back home'. Tinned goods especially are well overpriced. In most cases, the Portuguese equivalent is generally as good in quality and will always be better value.
A word : Super / Mini Mercado = Super / Mini Market
Any remarks about the shops and businesses are my own views. You may not agree. So why not try them and let me know if you disagree with my comments or have some of your own you think I should include.

Recommendation "...if you arrive in town Sunday (as we did) its reassuring to know the Spar is open for your first stock up. We’d been fretting about how to get settled in knowing the Baptista and Lagos super mercados close early on Sunday. It was great to discover we could stock the villa pantry right away!..." May 2011 - S.M.
