Praia da Luz Shops & Shopping

Other than the essentials there is a fair mix of shops in Luz, however most are naturally tourist gift shops. For a more varied range and superstore types you can always visit nearby Lagos ( only 10 minutes away by car, bus or taxi ).

Bakery (Pastelaria)	Pastelaria Fabrico Propario Pastry, Bakers. Small Cafe / cake shop. Where: Corner shop, on the left up from the square. Rua Direita 18. Note: Currently up for sale, but still trading.
Bank (Banco)	Crédito Agricola English speaking staff. Commission charged on exchanges. No credit card transactions over the counter so you need to use the outside ATM (Cash point). Note that the ATM has been known to empty on / during national / bank holidays. Alternative cash points are situated inside the Baptista supermarket five minutes walk up the hill (Rua de 5 Abril) or the other bank Espirito Santo 500m Up the hill ( Rua 2nd Abril ) from the square, on the right hand side of the road. Some Bars / Restaurants may accept sterling but it will be at a poorer rate of exchange. The currency is the Euro, (seven banknotes and eight coins). No credit card transactions over the counter so you need to use the ATM (Cash point) in the foyer ( which is accessible at night using your bank card for entry ). Note that the ATM has been known to empty on / during national / bank holidays. Alternative cash points are situated inside the Baptista supermarket five minutes walk up the hill (Rua de 5 Abril) or the other bank Credito Agricola located in the main square. Cash Point (ATM )	Baptista Supermarket Located just inside the Baptista supermarket lobby. Maximum withdrawal ( all ATMs' ) is €200. Open : During Supermarket opening hours. Where : Up the hill ( Rua Primeiro do Maio ) from the town square, take the first turning to the right.
Boutique	Sally E Smart, bright shop. Up to date fashions, men / women. Swimwear. Where : Located n the Commercial Centre. Just off Rua Direita, next to the Pharmacy.
Boutique	Capricho More of a fancy gift shop, has some good T-shirts, wraps, swimwear etc. Where : On the promenade toward the beach bar. Av. dos Pescadores.

Butchers	Talho Butchers Small butcher shop. Fresh meat daily. Where: Just inside the entrance ( the one opposite the Baptista Supermarket ) to the Commercial Centre.

Fish Market	Morning Fish Market Fresh, locally caught fish. Open : Most mornings from 10.00 until sold out ( which is pretty quickly ). Where ; The entrance to Commercial Centre directly opposite the Baptista Supermarket.
Fruit & Vegetables	Baptista II This welcomed new store opened on 15/05/2009. The Fruit and Vegetable section of the Baptista Supermarket has moved here, in its own separate store. The store sources its produce from the region and the freshness shows, including the fresh fish. Open : Saturday to Saturday - 08:30 to 21:00. Closed : Sundays. Pharmacy (Farmacias)	Pharmacy Look out for a green cross sign. Pharmacies are open during normal business hours, there is one pharmacy in every town that is on duty through the night, it's address is posted in the window of every other chemist and in local newspapers. Where: Up the hill past the bank in the town square. Inside the Commercial Centre.
Post Office (Correio)	Post Office (Correios, Telegrafos e Telefones - C.T.T.) Telephone calls and stamps. Stamps can also be bought from news stands and tobacconists (e.g. on the beach front). Open: It is open from 0900 - 1800 but is closed at weekends and bank holidays. Where: Near the centre of the town on the Rue Direita (the old road to Lagos).

Supermarket	O'Celeiro Might not look much from the outside, but is a fair size, clean and tidy and covers the essentials. Bread, Milk, Fresh Fruit and Vegetables. A pretty good selection of Wines and Beers. It also does hot spit roast chicken ( recommended ). Open : Everyday inc. Beach Stall	Tourist Stall A large semi-permanent beach stall. Hats, belts, beachwear. Where: On the corner, at the start of the Promenade, opposite the Habana cafe.
